We are Jim & Diane Huismans and we have lived in the small Friesian town of Rinsumageest in the Netherlands since 1993. This is the place where Jim grew up, before moving to Canada and later to the USA.

I (Diane) first got acquainted with the Australian Shepherd breed when a cross-bred female came to live with our family on our dairy farm in Oregon, USA, over 35 years ago. A few years later a black tri male made his appearance and I've had the pleasure of sharing my life with Aussies for most of the intervening years.

In the early 1980's we applied for an ASCA kennel name - KIZOKU. This became a permanently registered kennel name a number of years ago. The Dutch Kennel Club, member of the FCI, requires breeders to register a kennel name if they want to have some flexibility in naming the dogs they have bred. We sent in our list of name choices and WYNDANWOOD was selected to be our new kennel name. So whether you see Kizoku or Wyndanwood on a pedigree it means the Aussie in question was bred by us.

Our Aussies are first and foremost our companions and house pets. We enter a number of shows each year and have participated in obedience, agility and flyball.

We have enjoyed a couple of "firsts":

• the first Aussie registered with the Dutch KC belongs to us
• the first litter registered with the Dutch KC was bred by us
• the first Dutch Champion belongs to us
• the first Dutch-bred Champion was bred by us

We usually breed one litter a year and all breeding stock is certified clear of eye defects and hip dysplasia. Puppies are raised in our kitchen and are well-socialized by the time they leave for their new homes.

Our goal is to produce Australian Shepherds that are healthy, pretty to look at and that can be competitive in the show ring. In addition we want them to have the will to work with their owner at a variety of "doggie sports", whether it be obedience, agility, herding, frisbee, etc. It doesn't really matter what you do with your Aussie, as long as both dog and owner are having FUN!

Wij zijn Jim & Diane Huismans en we wonen in een klein dorpje in Friesland. Jim is weer "thuis" in Rinsumageest waar wij sinds 1993 wonen. Daarvoor woonden wij zowel in Canada als in de VS.

Toen ik (Diane) nog een kind was woonde ik in Oregon (VS) op een melkvee bedrijf. Op dit bedrijf hadden wij een bastaard Australian Shepherd teefje. Dat is al meer dan 35 jaar geleden. Een paar jaar later kwam er een zwarte driekleur reu bij en in de jaren daarna hebben wij meerdere honden van dit leuke ras gehad.

In het begin van de jaren 1980 hadden wij al een ASCA kennelnaam aangevraagd - KIZOKU. Toen wij naar Nederland kwamen hebben wij besloten om een andere naam aan te vragen bij de Raad van Beheer (FCI). Wij hebben voor WYNDANWOOD gekozen. Dus zie je Kizoku of Wyndanwood op de stamboom van een Aussie staan, dan is dat eentje die wij hebben gefokt.

Onze Aussies zijn in de eerste plaats onze kameraden en geliefde huisdieren. Wij gaan naar enkele tentoonstelling per jaar en we doen ook mee aan behendigheid, flyball, gehoorzaamheid, enz.

Wij fokken meestal een nest per jaar en alle fokdieren zijn gecontroleerd op heup- en oogafwijkingen. Puppies worden in de keuken groot gebracht en zijn goed gesocialiseerd voordat zij naar hun nieuwe baasjes gaan.

Onze doel in het fokken van Australian Shepherds is dat onze fokproducten gezond zijn. Daarnaast willen we mooie honden fokken die mee kunnen doen op tentoonstellingen. Maar mooi is niet alles - Aussies moeten het ook leuk vinden om met hun baas bezig te zijn met b.v. behendigheid, flyball, schapendrijven, gehoorzaamheid, enz. Eigenlijk maakt het niet uit wat je met je Australian Shepherd doet zolang baas en hond het maar naar hun zin hebben!
